I think if you're on a budget, getting PRO and forcing yourself to master all the tools it offers is great way to save money. Some of them would be great a third party plugins themselves, others are really capable but you sometimes wish the UI was better. Like something like Melodyne you'll only want to get the advanced version with polyphonic support cause Variaudio will take care of the monophonic stuff.Īpart from from orchestral and other sample based instruments, I rarely buy third party plugins because PRO has enough features for me. I have 10.5, so I don't have experience with 11 and the other stuff that comes with it.īasically PRO has a lot of stuff that you lets you get fewer third party plugins. I used it on one particular occasion to record various guitar chord stabs and then played the chords with GA because I was new to guitar and couldn't change chords quickly enough. I generally prefer working with drums as audio clips, but its definitely a very capable tool either way.
I use Groove Agent SE for chopping samples and sampling more than as a drum machine. They are amazing if you're not a great instrument player.

A lot of people say the Chord Pads are for noobs, but I've used them for professional work quite a bit.
They do some cool stuff that a lot of advanced users find useful. You should also play with Cubase's MIDI inserts and Program Logical Editor. There's the Sampler, Multitap, Frequency EQ and others that are good. IMO it's got a thick and gritty sound that comes in handy when you want something different from the pristine Serum-like sound.Īll the stock plugins and the channel strip are amazing. But you can do more conventional patch making too. That's just one crazy workflow I did after reading about Flume doing something similar. It'll give you all kinds of textures that you can slice up and use. I sometimes load up a sample, automate various parameters like crazy, set up random MIDI inputs and record the output for like 15 mins or so. You can use it to create amazing textures. I got Pro a couple years back because I had some film scoring projects back then.

I think Trip, Flux come with the full version of Halion. Pro isn't cheap, and I'm not really savvy enough to take advantage of advanced mixing features et al, so really for me it comes down to Variaudio and VSTs, otherwise Elements actually covers my bases well enough.
